In Sugie’s Kindergarten class, there is a system of colored cards used for monitoring behavior. Each day, they start with a green card. It stays green unless the child has been warned by the teacher to correct a certain behavior. If this happens, it changes to a yellow card. If the teacher has to reprimand the child again, their card turns red and they get a note sent home to the parents.
Most days, Sugie has green cards, but has had an occasional yellow card for doodling and playing in her pencil box while the teacher was talking. I expected this b/c she’s only 5 and can’t be perfect every day! Yesterday, however, she received a red card and had a note from the teacher.
We should have known that something was up when she walked into the kitchen with her backpack crying hysterically. We were not pleased when we found the note. After a long period of her crying fit, she eventually calmed down, cuddled me and apologized for her fit. She told me that she didn’t feel good b/c she had a note from her teacher. At least she had a guilty conscience about this! So, we talked with her about the incident and made it clear that this was to never happen again.
So, you probably wonder what got our precious little lady into so much trouble? Well, she spit on a classmate. Yes - she spit on them. Nice. I've NEVER seen her do this at home and only wonder as to where she picked up this behavior. Aren't kids supposed to practice these pranks on their siblings so as to give us parents a heads up?
Update: The very next day, Sugie received 2 purple cards. Purple cards are very special and are only given for exceptional behavior. That's more like my girl!
