You Can’t Get Me!

This was Sugie’s dare to her daddy when he had the hose out watering an almost dead tree in our landscaping. Well, he got her! The kids had so much fun getting hosed down by their daddy the other day! The humidity was awful, so they loved the cool water. What started off as a gentle sprinkling turned into a full soaking! I don’t know who had more fun – the kids running around getting blasted or the hubby chasing down the kids & drenching them!

Amazonia

We ventured to the zoo this afternoon to check out the new exhibit!  It was pretty hot and humid, but there were plenty of opportunities for the kids to cool off in the spray parks.  Our favorite part of the day was watching the monkeys play and take care of the newborn baby monkey.  It was sooo cute - Sugie wanted to take it home with us!  We had a really fun time and ended the evening with a pizza picnic in the living room.

Happy Birthday, Dad!

Bad Luck?

Is it bad luck when your fortune cookie is missing the fortune? My girlfriends and I were having fun cracking open our cookies at lunch and sharing the fortunes with each other. I didn't have anything to share since mine was missing. The waitress overheard us and gave me another cookie. Guess what - it was missing the fortune, too!! This didn't happen to anyone else at the table.

When we got back to work, a shiny new penny was waiting at my feet after I got out of the car. However, it was face down! Everyone said not to touch it because it was bad luck.

I don't have a very good feeling right now.....

Kindergarten – Week 2

This morning, I went in to school with Sugie so that I could talk to her teacher. I wanted to make sure she was adjusting well to her new school. Her teacher said that Sugie was wonderful, doing great, and she wished that more kids were like her! Good job, Sugie!

She then mentioned that we should talk to Sugie about her shoe choices and recess. Since Sugie insists on wearing high-heeled sandals almost every day, she is having some problems at recess climbing on the equipment. This cracks me up!! We’ll talk to Sugie and try to get her to wear more sensible shoes, but this could start a major battle in our household. She takes such pride in her footwear!!

Grumpy!

Lately, the precious children have been super grumpy and moody when they get home from school. Maybe it’s because of the move to their new school routines? I have read that it is normal for kids to get their emotions out at home with their parents rather than in their school setting.

While we’re making dinner, they get wild and start jumping off of the couch onto a pile of pillows. This almost always leads to tears, usually from our Sugar Bear because Buddy has hit or scratched her or pulled her hair. Then, she takes something away from Buddy and he bursts into tears. Some days, I would like to send them back to school!!

"I Touch?"

Our darling little son has been doing a little self discovery lately. Ever since he was 8 weeks old, Buddy has had an enormous, yet perfectly precious, belly. Only recently has his belly begun to shrink, due an upward growth spurt. He can now see the lower portion of his body, which is something he really wasn’t able to do before. So, he has discovered his manhood and innocently asks me, “I touch?” Then, he proceeds to poke, prod, push, pull, etc. at his discovery. Without a doubt, any grown man viewing this would be doubled over and brought to tears.

Holiday World

The hubby, Sugie, and I spent a fun day at Holiday World last Sunday! I felt a little guilty about not taking Buddy, but he had a super good time with P and E! He’s just not big enough yet (surprisingly!) for most of the rides and water attractions and still takes a 2 hour nap in the middle of the day.

We arrived when the water park opened and quickly headed for our favorite tube rides! We got to go down several slides before lunch time since there were no long lines. However, the reason for the short lines was most likely due to the extremely cold water temps! Little Sugie’s lips quivered and she was covered in goose bumps.

We met up with some friends at the wave pool after lunch. Sugie loves the wave pool, but was so cold that she said she wanted to go home. So, we got her changed and proceeded to leave, much to my dismay – I wanted to stay & play! On the way out, Sugie reminded her daddy about his promise of Dippin’ Dots that she was to receive when we left. So, that little stinker cooked up this plan that she wanted to leave just so that she could get her ice cream right then!!! Pretty sneaky! With one bat of her eyelashes, Sugie (and then the hubby) had ice cream in hand.

We spent the next four hours in the amusement park riding all of the rides at least once! She had a great time! She and I loved the ride that made her daddy queasy and dizzy! Needless to say, we wore her out and she was asleep the minute we hit the interstate!

Sugie-isms

I’ve kept of list of cute phrases and silly word pronunciations in the kid’s scrapbooks ever since they started talking. These will be my latest additions:

“Integrity” – The hubby and I were speechless when we heard this word pop out of our 5 year old’s mouth in proper context! In her first week of Kindergarten, she told us that she was a good listener and that she had integrity.

“Procedures” – Last night while eating dinner at Grandma’s house, Sugie told us about the kids that weren’t following the procedures in the hallway.

Whatever happened to learning basic words like cat and ball?

My Heart is Breaking…..

This week has been a very tough week for us. It’s really hard for everyone to adjust to our Sugar Bear’s new status as a Kindergartener. She was so excited to ride the bus the other day! However, I cried after I sent her away on the bus. This morning, she cried as she was about to get out of the car at school. So, I cried on the way to work. I just wanted to hold her tight and drive her back home.

She’s been exhausted this week since they don’t get a nap at school. She really needs an hour to refuel during the day. Even though she still really loves Kindergarten, she asked if she could go back to pre-school so she could take a nap. We’ve been getting her to bed earlier at night and letting her sleep in longer in the mornings. But, the little precious has been worn out. We’re so ready for the weekend!!

First Day of School

It's hard to believe that today was little Sugie's first day of Kindergarten! She was SOOOOOOO excited to go! Last Thursday, we visited the school and met her teacher. I was bummed to learn that there were 31 students in her class. Sugie was sold on her new school the second she learned that she could wear sandals to school! Sugie requested a glamour night last night to prepare for her big day. So, the hubby painted her nails while I curled her hair. I drew the line this morning when she requested to borrow my lipstick!!

The four of us took her to school this morning. She was very excited to show Buddy her new room. When we left, she gave Buddy a big hug and told him that he needed to be a big boy now that she wasn't going to be at school with him. It was so sweet!!! Sugie didn't even care when we left. I actually think that she was ready to get rid of us!

Her favorite part of the day was snack time - she had cookies and Cheerios dipped in chocolate milk. Tasty!! She was quick to tell us about the kids that got in trouble and couldn't play during recess. She was also excited to have several kids in her class from her pre-school. I can't believe my baby girl is growing up so quickly!!!

Get a Clue

Sugie and Buddy both participated in the annual library summer reading program. Buddy hit his target early on because he loves for us to read him a lot of books before bedtime. For each level completed, the kids got various free meal coupons and entry forms to win prizes at the end of the program. Little Sugie won a prize this year and we’re having so much fun with it! She won the game Clue Jr. and we’ve played it every night so far!

Back to Reality

It’s a good thing the hubby and I didn’t get too used to our care-free, spontaneous lifestyle while we were on vacation. Reality set back in pretty much the moment we came home. Over the weekend, our precious little Sugie complained of a headache while we out shopping and said that she wanted to go home. My little Sugie LOVES to shop, so we thought something was up. She actually took a nap when we got home. Once again, a nap from Sugie on a weekend never happens! Then, she vomited while watching TV on the couch and her nose gushed blood. Poor little Sugie was in so much pain. She was all better when she woke up the next day. My best guess is that it was a migraine. Can 5 year olds really get migraines??

California, here we come!

Well, we did it!  We took some time for ourselves by leaving the kids with family and hopped on a plane for San Francisco!!!  Our 10 year anniversary is later this year, so we decided to celebrate with a special trip.  We had a few delays at the airports, but that didn't dampen our spirits.  We had a fabulous time!  The kids had a great time with the family, too, since they were showered with constant attention and got to spend a few nights away from home.  They met us at the airport upon our return and gave us some of the biggest hugs ever!!  Here are a few pictures from our trip:
