It’s Official….I’m a Mini-Van Mom

I never, ever, ever pictured myself owning or driving a mini-van. But with 3 kids, it was really the best option for us. So, after looking around, the hubby and I finally decided on a new van. I was very, very sad to get rid of my car, but it just wasn’t big enough for our expanding family.

Turns out…..I LOVE the van!! It’s loaded with everything, even the Disney Channel for my angels! We used to think our SUV had so much room for the family. Whatever!! This van is amazing and I can’t imagine never having one.

The kids absolutely love the van, too. They even ask if they can go play in it! They used to get excited over who was picking them up from school. Now, they are just excited if the van is picking them up!

Mother’s Day

What a fabulous Mother’s Day!! When the kids woke up, they quietly went to watch Scooby Doo, Buddy’s favorite cartoon, and didn’t even come wake me up!! I was anxious to see them, so I got up early anyway, but it still very sweet of them.

We took the kids and our moms out for breakfast. We had a nice time together. Sugie devoured everything on her plate and Buddy ate his food as long as he had syrup to dip everything in.

We had no other plans the rest of the day, which was WONDERFUL!!!! We spent a very relaxing afternoon outside all day with the kids. The weather was beautiful, the kids were cute, and the hubby was sweet (he completed some honey-do’s!).

Buddy gave me a flower he had planted in a can he painted. It was very beautiful. I also got a sweet card with his handprints all over it. Sugie made me pretty flowers from coffee filters at school and also made me a card. I actually got a few cards from her, two of them with the following message:

“You brak (sic) my heart and make me cry. I love you so much.” I’m not sure what that means, but I think she’s trying to be sweet. (?)

My stepmom sent me some fabulous cookies that her sister makes. They are delicious and I did share some with the family!!

My big gift was a planter for our mailbox. I always loved our mailbox flowers at the old house, but the new house didn’t have a planter attached to the mailbox. The hubby arranged for a friend to build me one and then he and Sugie planted flowers in it. Thanks guys!!!

Sprinkler Time!

The weather around here goes from cold to hot & humid. What happened to my nice spring weather? We are finally getting it now, but it was hot a few weeks ago. It was hot enough for the sprinkler to come out! Sugie was super excited about it – so was I!!! However, Buddy was the one who played in it the most! He loved it! Sugie complained that she was cold, but still played a little in it. I surely enjoyed it and am thankful I will not be pregnant during those super hot summer months!

Since we had been doing a lot of fun stuff for Sugie lately, I decided to let Buddy have some special fun. When I saw the advertisement for Kool Wheels, I knew that Buddy would love it. A business brought in every kind of truck imaginable (fire truck, ambulance, police car, motorcycle, police bus, cement mixer, dump truck, etc.) and let kids climb all over them!

Buddy got to “drive” all of them, but was most excited about “driving” the fire truck. Sugie even had fun playing in all of the trucks. She mostly loved the nail station, though, where girls painted her fingernails!! The kids came home with books, toys, and stained teeth from their slushies. It was a fun afternoon!!!

More Homeroom Mom Duties

Surprise, surprise – my duties as homeroom mom did not end with the Spring Party. Turns out, each class is assigned a booth/activity at the school’s annual Spring Fling. The homeroom parent is responsible for recruiting booth workers for the event.

So, I got to call every parent in Sugie’s class and beg them to work a 1 hour shift at our Plinko booth. Who doesn’t love Plinko? Apparently 24 families out of 27!! That’s right - I was only able to recruit 2 other parents to help out at our booth. We only needed 8 volunteers! I heard every excuse under the sun, some of them being very creative!

My kids had a great time at the Fling, playing games, winning prizes, and eating slushies. Buddy was thrilled to take his first ride in a school bus! I even had a great time working at the booth. It was super busy and hectic, but was actually a lot of fun! (I did have a hard time biting my tongue when I saw the parents there who said that they weren’t available to work.)

So, now my homeroom mom duties are officially over. In the end, I’m glad that I did it. I was able to be there for Sugie, meet her new friends, and got to know her teacher through planning the events and working with her at the Fling. Will I sign up again next year as Homeroom Mom? Heck no!!!

Sugar Bear has Sugar Bugs

Sugie’s latest checkup at the dentist didn’t go so well! He said that she was brushing fine, but needed to floss more. Her back teeth are very tight and she had a cavity, or “sugar bug”, on each side of her mouth. Oh boy! I knew that we’d be in for some fun getting those cavities filled.

A few weeks ago, I took Sugie for her fillings. The nurses & dentist said that she did perfect – she sat still and didn’t move. When I went back to get Sugie, she looked up at me with those big, beautiful blue eyes and all I saw was complete & utter fear. I picked her up and she began crying – almost hysterically. It broke my heart and caused some tears in my eyes. Sugie wasn’t in pain – she just didn’t like the numb sensation on her jaw.

They gave her a bracelet and pink balloon. I got her a milkshake and Tylenol and took her home for a little while. She wasn’t ready to go back to school yet. After she checked out her bottom lip and noticed that it looked normal, despite feeling very abnormal, she started feeling a little better. She was fine by the time we got to school. I must say, she takes much better care of her teeth these days!!!

When Sugie got home from school one day, she was very grouchy and whiny. Nothing could make her happy! I told her that she was being a crabapple and that she needed to adjust her attitude.

The next morning, I woke the kids up for school. Buddy always wakes up happy, ready to play. Sugie is never happy about getting woken up by me (only Daddy), rolls around in the bed and whines, and complains if you touch her or look at her.

I’m so used to this routine that it doesn’t bother me. Buddy, however, chose to comment at breakfast that Sissy was being an apple. It took me a minute to realize that he was calling her a crabapple. It was cute, sweet moment!! Of course, Sugie didn’t appreciate the humor in it!
