Church Picnic

We spent a sweltering afternoon at church on Sunday at the annual picnic. After a good lunch inside in the air conditioning, we headed outdoors for some fun! The kids were red-faced and sweaty in no time!! There were three huge inflatables to play on, as well as balloon and water games. When we got home, we immediately jumped in the pool!!! Actually, most of our weekend was spent relaxing and cooling off in the pool. It was so refreshing!

Horsing Around

On Saturday, we went to Ellis Park for “Early AM at Ellis.” We got to tour the stables and backside where all of the horses and jockeys stay. The kids played games and were thrilled with the horse trinkets they won. Buddy’s favorite part was when we got to pet and visit with a horse. He was so excited to see the "neighs"! Sugie said that she mostly enjoyed being able to stand up in the shuttle van on the tour. I guess she’s pretty tired of riding in a car seat! I think the hubby's favorite part was our outing to Donut Bank after the event!!!

Monkey See, Monkey Do

It’s so fun watching the little munchkins play together! They really truly love spending time with each other. Buddy always asks for his Sugie when he wakes up in the morning and Sugie loves being a second mommy to Buddy. Buddy has become a faithful follower to his sister. He mimics everything she does, he puts her shoes on his feet, and he thinks he needs to grab a purse and makeup whenever we leave the house, just like his Sugie.

Our month has been going great so far – kids sick for almost 3 weeks, malfunctioning washer and weed eater, etc. So, we weren’t surprised when our garbage disposal stopped working. Of course, I didn’t know it wasn’t working when I pushed all of that food in there. So, it sat for a few days until we got a replacement one.

My super handy hubby installed a new garbage disposal last night. He did a fantastic job!!! Since he played plumber for the evening, here is a gratuitous shot of Plumber's Crack - Buddy's, not the hubby's! Buddy is notorious for his peek-a-boo crack!

When Isaac walked in the kitchen to watch the hubby work, he kept saying, “Kinky! Kinky!”. Yes, it was very stinky, Buddy!! You’re such a cutie!

Sugie has been shot!

Our precious Sugie had her dreaded 5 year old check up earlier this week. Since she is one of the youngest in her class, she got to her all of her friend’s horror stories about their “Kindergarten shots.” She’s told me for several months that she’s not getting shots and will not go to her Kindergarten checkup. So, when I took her to the doctor she thought it was just a check on her strep throat. (This was her conclusion – I never told her this!) She passed her eye test with flying colors and did great, as usual, with the rest of the exam. When the doctor left the room, she looked at me with those big, beautiful, blue eyes and asked, “Mommy, do I have to get shots?” I wanted to tell her no and run out of that place as fast as I could. When she heard the news, she started sobbing. When the two nurses came in, she started crying much harder. She was cooperative and let us put her on the table, but she was really crying. Poor little Sugie had to get four shots – two in each leg! I’ve never heard her scream so loudly. It broke my heart into a million pieces. The doctor even came back in and held her for a few minutes. As we left, almost every nurse offered her some sort of trinket to take home.

We felt so badly for her, so we catered to her every need. I got her a milkshake and brought her back to work with me. Then, I took her shoe shopping (a favorite activity of hers) and let her convince me that she needed 3 new pairs of shoes. She complained that she couldn’t walk, so we had to carry her everywhere that night and the next morning. I know that the shots hurt, but what a DIVA!

Shake your maracas!!

Sugie's fever broke on Saturday and she seemed to be feeling better, so we took her to my friend's wedding reception.  They were married on a beach in Mexico last week, so it was a Mexican-themed event.  Sugie liked the little maracas that we had at the tables.  (We took some home to Buddy, who thought these were the greatest things ever!)

Sugie desperately wanted to eat the cute m&ms and mints, but only the bread went down her throat easily.  She and her daddy played several rounds of Slap Jacks at the table while I caught up with some old friends.  Sugie even danced  a little bit around our table.  It was fun evening, mostly because our Sugar Bear was starting to act like herself again.

Sugie and the Strep

Well, I'm really tired of my children being sick and in pain.  Poor Sugie has had a rough time with strep throat.  She's not really eating or drinking because it is so painful.  Her tonsils have even starting bleeding, so she frequently spits up blood.  

She was out of school most of last week.  Thank you P & E for taking such good care of her and helping us out!!  The hubby and I have both missed several days of work due to the little sick ones.  I had to drop out of the Bowl for the Cure last week and miss my scrapbooking club on Friday.

On one sick day at home, we made a build-your-own-bear from a kit she got for her birthday.  Sugie got to stuff it, dress it, and name it - Klacey.  (I'm not sure where that came from, but it's better than some of the other named animals!)
