Buddy's 5 Year Checkup

Earlier this month, Buddy has his 5 year old checkup / Kindergarten physical.  I can't believe he is such a big boy now!!  He had to pee in a cup, which went great, and read the eye chart.

He weighs 46 pounds (75th percentile) and is 44 inches tall (50th percentile).  I had the nurse give Buddy the nasal mist flu vaccine while we were there.  He sniffed it up and then promptly sneezed it out!!  I hope enough of it stayed in his nose!

He also had to get 4 shots!!  Our little Buddy handled them like a champ.  He, of course, had a panicked look on his face with each poke, but he only had one little tear.  I felt bad for the little guy, so we stopped at his favorite donut place for a chocolate devils food donut with sprinkles (that's a must!), chocolate milk, and a cookie.  That seemed to make everything all better!!

Buddy's legs didn't look too good a few days after the shots.  One leg had a big bruise.  The other was very red and inflammed.   He's always been the kid with the weird reactions to medicines/vaccinations.

I guess my Buddy is now ready to enter the world of Kindergarten next fall!

Fun & Not Fun Weekend

We recently had a weekend filled with a lot of fun things not fun things:

Fun:  Sugie and Buddy's Saturday soccer games

Not Fun: Being late to Sugie's soccer game  (The hubby was at a meeting and I just screwed up the time!  Sorry Sugie!)

Fun:  16 friends (6 adults, 10 kids) over for pizza, salad, breadsticks, dirt pudding, and apple cake.  The weather was gorgeous!  We played basketball, wiffle ball, football, jumped in the bounce house, drove cars, and had a lot of fun!

Not Fun: The hubby had meetings on Friday night and most of Saturday

Fun: Playing in the rain!

Not Fun:  The hubby aerating the yard in the rain

Fun:  A birthday party for one of Sugie's friend's at Skate World!

Not Fun:  Leaving the party early in tears because Sugie didn't like skating.

Fun: Popcorn and a movie

Not Fun: Falling asleep during movie time because you are so exhausted from all of the fun!

Fun:   Blue and then purple bath water and pink glitter in the hair

Not Fun:  Going to bed on Sunday night knowing that it's the end of our mostly fun weekend!

Family Fun Fair

It was a beautiful Saturday afternoon.  Soccer games were finished.  Naps had been taken.  So, I decided to take the kids to an event just around the corner from our house.  They advertised "Pony Rides", so I figured we'd go for the rides since E LOVES "orsies" and then head home.  I was wrong!  We had a great time!

When you ask Little E about his pony ride, he gets all excited and talks about his hat.  That hat really made an impression on my sweet little angel!  The lady asked which kid wanted to go first.  Without hesitation, Little E loudly said, "Me!"

Sugie got a big horse!

We put Buddy on a medium sized horse.  They all had fun!

Instead of leaving, liking I had intended, the kids wanted to see what else was going on.  The kids played a few carnival games and won little prizes.  Buddy gets a kick out of new trinkets, so he loved this part!

There were so many inflatables for the kids to choose from!  I kind of thought this one was a little tacky - it was an iceberg on one half and the sinking Titantic on the other half!!  The kids had to slide down the ship into the "water".

Little E was very patient waiting in lines for the kids.  Most of the inflatables were too big for him, but he did try out a couple of bounce houses.

We waited about 45 minutes for the bungee bounce.  It was nice finding some of our friends and spending the wait with them.  Sugie just had to try this thing out!  She did have a great time jumping high into the air, but was too scared to try to flip.

Buddy had fun, too!!  This boy is pretty adventurous and willing to try anything.  I love that about him!

I thought this caterpillar inflatable was funny.  The kids enter in the mouth, crawl through the body, and then come out at...well, the behind.  It was funny to see!

I promised each kid a treat before we left.  Sugie and Little E chose snow cones.  Buddy picked cotton candy.  He had it stuck to his chin, so it looked like a little beard!

We found the tractor pull while heading back to the car.  Little E loves tractors, so I let each kid drive one.  We had a really fun time!  But, we had to hurry home to the hubby, who was resting his twisted ankle from softball the night before.

We had a really fun afternoon together!

Tent Building

These two kids either play super great with one another or are just plain mean to each other.  There is really no in between.  Most of the time, they get along great.  (This is usually when Buddy caves into Sugie's playtime demands!  The girl is very strong-willed!!) 

I captured this good moment of them building a tent in the great room and "camping out".  I love watching them play so well together and hope they continue to be great friends as they grow older.

Daddy Daughter Date Night

Last month, the hubby took Sugie on a Daddy Daughter Date Night held at Chick-Fil-A. They've always had a special bond and she will forever be a Daddy's girl.

When they arrived at the restaurant, they found a table reserved just for them.  There was a rose at the table for Sugie and this placemat with suggested conversation topics.  (Please tilt head sideways now!)



After dinner, they visited the manicure station, where the hubby painted Sugie's nails blue and orange.  She then made a picture frame for the picture taken by the professional photographer at the date.

The best part of the date, according to Sugie, was the limo ride!!!  A limo drove her and the hubby, along with a few other pairs, for a drive around town!!  She loved every minute of it!  (I still have to get the pics from the hubby's phone!)  Sugie really enjoyed her special night with her Dad.

Buddy's 5th Birthday

Our Buddy turned 5 on September 6.  He was so excited for his birthday to come because he really, really wanted the Captain America"n" car.  Guess what?  He got it!!

He also thought his new football jersey was pretty cool, but was NOT happy about having to take a pic with his sister!

The ever sweet Sugie wanted Buddy to have lots of things to open on his big day, so she wrapped up random toys around the house.  It was a super thoughtful gesture that he did not appreciate.  He thought he was getting a bunch of new toys and was not happy to discover that it was stuff he already had.

Little E had a tough time understanding that Buddy got first dibs at the new toys.  E kept saying, "My turn!"

Buddy took a snack to school to share with his friends.  The hubby made Buddy extra chocolately chip cookies for his birthday treat.  Isn't he a handsome 5 year old??  I love that kid.  Happy Birthday, Buttercups!

Labor Day 2011

Our Labor Day was fantastic!  We started off the day with a special pre-birthday celebration breakfast for Buddy.  We had birthday cake and balloon shaped pancakes with whipped cream!

We had nothing we had to do, so we spent most of the day outside playing.  If you know Little E at all, you know that his favorite phrase is "outside play".  Those are his first words in the morning and the last ones at night.  He would live outside if we let him.

Labor Day brought fall-like weather, which was great!  But, it meant the end of the season for our beloved pool. 

The great wind inspired the kids to get their kites out.  Sugie won a princess kite at our FL vacation resort.  Buddy flew his Spiderman kite and did a really great job.

We ended the day with some shopping and dinner out.  Buddy was so anxious to use his gift cards for more new toys!  That night we worked a puzzle in the dining room.  I don't know how this happened, but we ended up having a dance party on the table!!
