"Feed My Starving Children"

A few weekends ago, we participated in a fun activity with several of our close friends. Since last fall, our church had planned a meal packing event in February for children in Haiti. Since the earthquake hit 3 weeks before our event, the size of the event doubled. Children aged 5 and older could help pack, so we put Sugie to work! She was a great helper and wanted to go longer than our two hours.

Sugie’s future husband (we hope!) is at 1:28!! (She did have a meltdown at first about the hairnet, but got over it when the fun started.)

Buddy's Parent Teacher Conference

A few weeks ago, we had Buddy’s parent-teacher conference at his school. Buddy loves his teacher and loves going to school. We also know that Buddy can be a bit rambunctious and isn’t always the best listener, so I wasn’t sure how this conference would go.

The teacher started off by going through a report card that evaluated Buddy on various skills, such as gross and fine motor skills, and areas of learning. Buddy is on target in almost every area for his age. (He was marked a little down on his galloping skills, although he has been galloping like a champ for quite awhile!)

Anyway, she kept going on how intelligent and well-mannered our sweet Buddy is. After awhile, I wanted her to take me into his room and point to the child that she was talking about. I just wanted to make sure we were talking about the same kid!! We think Buddy’s pretty bright, too, but he definitely doesn’t always show it.

Her only area of concern was how attached he is to his best friend. She said that they would play all day by themselves if she let them. I think it’s so sweet that he has a friend that he gets along with so well.

We’re so proud of our Buddy! We’re also very thankful that he saves his whining and tantrums for our eyes only.

Then other night while waiting in line to check out at a store, I overheard the following conversation between a mother and her 12 year-old-ish daughter.

Mom: I'm not getting that for you.

Girl: But, mom! I need a new bikini for the summer!!

Mom: You already have one.

Girl: But, everyone's already seen that one! Besides, this one is only $70!

That's when I realized that I probably will be having this argument with Sugie in a few years. She is our little bikini diva!

Snow Day

Last weekend, we were surprised by the amount of snow we received - almost 8 inches. It fell Friday evening, so we woke up to a white winter wonderland on Saturday morning. Sugie's cheerleading was cancelled, so we had plenty of time to play in the snow. It was too cold for Baby, so we headed out when he took a nap. We got to play extra long outside since he took a 2.5 hour nap! What fun!

This was going to be our snowman. The snow was too fluffy and dry, so it didn't hold together very well. (Well, it held together enough for the hubby to launch a snowball attack on me!!) Buddy ended up squishing and then eating our snowman!!

We had so much fun sledding down our hill. We had a blast speeding down the big hill out front!! Sugie especially loved it!

We made snow angels and then buried Sugie in the snow.

Sugie's New 'Do!

Sugie requested a haircut last week and ended up losing about 6 inches of her hair! She loves her short new hairdo, especially because we curl it every day to flip it out. She feels extra sassy now!

BTW, in true Sugie fashion, she kept wanting me to take her picture. She loves to pose! I should have gotten that girl into modeling!

Blizzard Boss?

Over Christmas vacation, Buddy told me that he wanted “Blizzard Boss”. I thought – what in the world is Blizzard Boss? Is it a new ice cream show on TLC like Cake Boss? Is it a new treat at Dairy Queen?

No, he was asking for the Wizard of Oz! He and Sugie have since become addicted to this movie. They watch it all of the time! I was afraid that they would get scared of the witch or flying monkeys. (As a child, I was terrified of that witch on the broomstick outside Dorothy’s window!)

When Sugie was a baby, mom and I collected all of the Wizard of Oz toys from McDonald’s Happy Meals b/c I thought that they might someday interest Sugie. Buddy LOVES playing with these, so I’m very glad that we ate so many cheeseburgers to get them!

Buddy isn’t the only one obsessed with this movie. A few kids in his class at school love it, too. It’s gotten to the point where they call him Scarecrow now instead of his name. There is also a Dorothy and two Toto’s in his room!! I did draw the line when Buddy requested to wear Sugie’s sparkly red shoes to school. We reserved this fun for home!

To top things off, Buddy’s other love, Scooby Doo, had an episode where they were the Wizard of Oz characters. I don’t think anything could have made my sweet little boy any happier!
