Make a Smilebox invite

Since we had been doing a lot of fun stuff for Sugie lately, I decided to let Buddy have some special fun. When I saw the advertisement for Kool Wheels, I knew that Buddy would love it. A business brought in every kind of truck imaginable (fire truck, ambulance, police car, motorcycle, police bus, cement mixer, dump truck, etc.) and let kids climb all over them!

Buddy got to “drive” all of them, but was most excited about “driving” the fire truck. Sugie even had fun playing in all of the trucks. She mostly loved the nail station, though, where girls painted her fingernails!! The kids came home with books, toys, and stained teeth from their slushies. It was a fun afternoon!!!

More Homeroom Mom Duties

Surprise, surprise – my duties as homeroom mom did not end with the Spring Party. Turns out, each class is assigned a booth/activity at the school’s annual Spring Fling. The homeroom parent is responsible for recruiting booth workers for the event.

So, I got to call every parent in Sugie’s class and beg them to work a 1 hour shift at our Plinko booth. Who doesn’t love Plinko? Apparently 24 families out of 27!! That’s right - I was only able to recruit 2 other parents to help out at our booth. We only needed 8 volunteers! I heard every excuse under the sun, some of them being very creative!

My kids had a great time at the Fling, playing games, winning prizes, and eating slushies. Buddy was thrilled to take his first ride in a school bus! I even had a great time working at the booth. It was super busy and hectic, but was actually a lot of fun! (I did have a hard time biting my tongue when I saw the parents there who said that they weren’t available to work.)

So, now my homeroom mom duties are officially over. In the end, I’m glad that I did it. I was able to be there for Sugie, meet her new friends, and got to know her teacher through planning the events and working with her at the Fling. Will I sign up again next year as Homeroom Mom? Heck no!!!

Sugar Bear has Sugar Bugs

Sugie’s latest checkup at the dentist didn’t go so well! He said that she was brushing fine, but needed to floss more. Her back teeth are very tight and she had a cavity, or “sugar bug”, on each side of her mouth. Oh boy! I knew that we’d be in for some fun getting those cavities filled.

A few weeks ago, I took Sugie for her fillings. The nurses & dentist said that she did perfect – she sat still and didn’t move. When I went back to get Sugie, she looked up at me with those big, beautiful blue eyes and all I saw was complete & utter fear. I picked her up and she began crying – almost hysterically. It broke my heart and caused some tears in my eyes. Sugie wasn’t in pain – she just didn’t like the numb sensation on her jaw.

They gave her a bracelet and pink balloon. I got her a milkshake and Tylenol and took her home for a little while. She wasn’t ready to go back to school yet. After she checked out her bottom lip and noticed that it looked normal, despite feeling very abnormal, she started feeling a little better. She was fine by the time we got to school. I must say, she takes much better care of her teeth these days!!!

My “Apple”

When Sugie got home from school one day, she was very grouchy and whiny. Nothing could make her happy! I told her that she was being a crabapple and that she needed to adjust her attitude.

The next morning, I woke the kids up for school. Buddy always wakes up happy, ready to play. Sugie is never happy about getting woken up by me (only Daddy), rolls around in the bed and whines, and complains if you touch her or look at her.

I’m so used to this routine that it doesn’t bother me. Buddy, however, chose to comment at breakfast that Sissy was being an apple. It took me a minute to realize that he was calling her a crabapple. It was cute, sweet moment!! Of course, Sugie didn’t appreciate the humor in it!

Literacy Night

The hubby had to work at Literacy Night at one of the local libraries last month for one of his classes, so I decided to take the kids to check it out. We were treated to a free Fazoli’s (or Ravioli’s, as Sugie says it) dinner, which thrilled the kids. Then, each kid received a free book. Buddy was super excited about his new Dora book! They also had crafts and story telling for the kids. I was exhausted and was ready to leave, but my kids wanted to stay for the whole thing. The story teller was great for the kids! I think the hubby may have dozed off during this!

NCAA Tournament

Almost every year since we’ve been together (14 years now!), the hubby and I have each filled out NCAA tournament brackets and had our own little family competition. (We even let Sugie fill one out!!!) The hubby has always won. It’s never been close, but it’s still fun do. This is the only year I decided to not enter my bracket into any money pool, mostly due to poor showings in years past. Of course, 2009 was the year that I made a ton of correct picks and would have actually won some money!!! Oh, well. At least I finally beat the hubby and I won our contest in my department at work.

Side note about Sugie – She had fun watching the basketball games with us, mostly any game where Pitt played. Every time someone said “Pitt”, we tickled her and she loved every minute of it! I’m sure that’s her favorite team now!

Family Fun

To take a break from the hustle and bustle of our normal weekend routine, we planned a fun Saturday night at Lloyd Pool. The kids love water - especially Sugie – so they were thrilled to learn that we were going swimming. There was special wading area for kids that was perfect for them! Buddy was able to touch the bottom in some places, but of course, loved to venture out into deeper waters. So, we put a life jacket on him and let him go. (They wouldn’t let us use water wings!?!)

Sugie had so much fun that night that she decided that she wanted to have her birthday party there later this month, only after I shot down her idea of a Holiday World party!!
